Alleluia, Jesus is risen! Happy Easter!
Dear Grade 2 Families,
We are excited to begin our Grade 2 Reading Logs! Each student has received a reading log (see attached) where they will record their reading throughout the week. Please put these reading logs in a duotang / simple folder for safe keeping.

Expectations:
Students should read at least 15–20 minutes each day. I strongly encourage reading together with your child, as this helps them grow into independent readers over time. By reading with an adult, children learn proper phrasing and expression, engage in meaningful discussion, and develop a greater love for reading!
After reading each book, students will record:
Reading Logs will be collected and checked by Ms. Delfin at the end of each week.
Tips for Supporting Reading at Home:
1. Read together and talk about it
Spend a few minutes after reading asking your child simple questions like, “What was your favourite part?” or “What surprised you?” This helps build the virtue of attention and encourages your child to think more deeply about what they read.
2. Create a simple, consistent reading routine
Try to set aside a regular time each day for reading; before bed or after dinner works well for many families. Even 10–15 minutes at a time helps build the virtues of diligence and fortitude, as children learn to stick with a good habit.
3. Help your child choose good books
Let your child pick books they enjoy, while also guiding them toward stories that are uplifting and meaningful. Reading books that reflect truth, goodness, and beauty helps form both the mind and the heart, and encourages the virtue of prudence, or good judgment.
You may also search for “classic children’s books” at your local library. Please use discretion when selecting books to ensure they are appropriate and reflect good values.
After reading each book, students will record:
- The date
- The title of the book
- The number of minutes read
